The Power of VE Global Orientation

With our new January volunteers now settling into their work in our partner organizations, it’s the perfect time to reflect on their 10 days of orientation and what it means for the volunteers and their work with the children we support.

We welcomed the volunteers to our office at the beginning of January and have enjoyed getting to know them over the past few weeks. We’ve already heard some great feedback about what they’ve been up to and are looking forward to learning more about their continued hard work. The tías at Hogar San Francisco de Régis have already had the chance to visit the beach, accompanying the girls there on their summer vacations!

We have three volunteer classes per year and are now recruiting for our May and September classes. If you are interested in applying, visit the volunteer section of our website.

We recently asked the volunteers about their favorite parts of orientation and what they learned from the process. Here were some things they said:

The history and education sessions were really great! Orientation gives us all of the necessary tools to face the challenge of working with children.

– Charlotte Bonillo, VE Global Volunteer/Development and Communications Intern

I was interested in learning about the financial element of running an NGO. We learned about VE’s budget and expenses, asking for private donations and applying for grants, and how VE maintains transparency.

– Bonnie Rowan, January 2016 Volunteer

I was surprised to be welcomed by a friendly, dedicated and knowledgeable team of people from around the world. Orientation was a useful and immediately necessary basis for our volunteer commitment. My favorite part of orientation was the course on children’s education, I knew nothing about it and it proved to be extremely interesting.

– Antoine Mondoloni, January 2016 Volunteer

Orientation was really great, and I think what I loved most was café (closing orientation dinner event) which was a really nice summary and end to the two week orientation.

– Nadia Alting von Geusau, January 2016 Volunteer

Don’t forget to be in contact with us at [email protected] if you have any questions about volunteering, the application process, or VE Global in general. We’ll be more than happy to answer them!
