In Chile for a Good Cause

Magalie Gambazzi, from Bogis-Bossey, Switerland was featured in her local newspaper, which shared the story of her time with VE Global in Santiago, Chile!  Read on below the original version of the Bogis-Bossey Gazette article here for a translation in English!  Magalie, thank you for your hard work and dedication, both in volunteering and fundraising for our work with children and youth here in Chile!VE Global Volunteer Magalie in her hometown news!

Magalie, VE Global Volunteer in the Bogis-Bossey Gazette

After backpacking throughout Latin America in 2013, Magalie decided she would go back, but this time with a different purpose.  She would live a different experience: volunteering. Last fall, Magalie chose Chile as her destination, where she volunteered at VE Global, a small NGO run by 3 paid staff, a few part-time interns and a group of volunteers. For 5 months, Magalie served as a role model and educator for children at social risk living in a children’s home for girls in Santiago de Chile. She defines her experience as “a new perspective on life,” where human values are put into practice and are seen with a whole new perspective: human contact, sharing, and solidarity became more important to Magalie.

Working with children was challenging and required to be flexible and patient. VE Global doesn’t charge it volunteers a program fee, so the volunteers are required to participate in fundraising to contribute to the organization’s sustainability. Thanks to her passion and dedication, Magalie created personalized videos presenting her project.  More than 50 people donated to VE Global, showing their support for her cause. Among those people were her family and her friends, but also many townspeople from her community, Bogis-Bossey, Switzerland, donated as well.  They are grateful for Magalie´s motivation and encourage young people to have similar experiences. In order to thank the donors and share her experience with them, Magalie organized an event, filled with Chilean colors and flavors, when she came back home last April.
