Behnoud Shojaee y Mohammad Feda’i
could be executed in Iran around August 12th. They were both sentenced to death penalty after being declared guilty for murders commited when they were minors. None of them had proper legal assistant during the trial. [This contravenes Article 37 of the UN Convention on the Rights of the
Child (UN CRC) that stipulates that capital punishment should not be
imposed for offences committed by persons below 18 years of age. ] More info here:

Emma, a September newcomer, fundraised for VE |
|
Emma Alderman, an incoming volunteer for the September class, organized a tennis tournament to fundraise for VE. It was extremely successfull and this is how Emma described it:
Along with my mother, Amanda Alderman, and
grandmother, Jean Alderman, we arranged a small tennis tournament at
private courts around the local area of Wisborough Green, West Sussex, UK. We were very kindly offered the use of a converted barn as a venue for lunch by
Kathy Wiggan who also provided a court. Jo Bentall acted as our treasurer
for the event in addition to allowing us the use of her court. A final
court was provided by Annie Luard. The tournament was played in the
morning followed by a buffet style luncheon for all players and
guests which was contributed by various tennis players as well as my mother
and grandmother. The final was played in the early afternoon and a prize
was presented to the winners by Carmen Hornung. Similarly to Wimbledon,
there was a threat of rain but fortunately this cleared and we had a fantastic
day.
Thanks to Emma, Amanda and Jean for helping VE with its mission to improve opportunities for unprivileged children of Chile.
