February 2012: What is success? A simple answer
We often get the question: where does the fundraising money go? In short, right back into VE. Program supplies, volunteer training and staff support are the simple answers, but really the dollars given this campaign season go to funding VE´s success with the children.
Here are some recent moments of success:
- Niko helping a child with a speech impediment read out loud for the first time.
- Faith and Ali bringing children to their first Liga and teaching them healthy habits.
- Nola and Jess getting a group of rowdy boys to read the Hungry Caterpillar together.
- Jamie and Mariah taking teenage girls to a reproductive health workshop.
- Cindy showing children how to cook meals from around the world.

Volunteer Spotlight: Faith Josephs
Faith began volunteering with VE in September 2010 and now works as the Assistant Director of Operations. Faith plans on returning home in March: read about her life here as a volunteer and staff member.
Want to volunteer too? Do it now!
Where does success start?
When new volunteers arrive in Chile, they often feel a little overwhelmed and think that the odds are stacked up against them in actually making a difference for the kids. We try to help ward off that feeling with orientation, complete with fun sessions like learning the best Chilean cuisine to the important teaching practices for working with children who have been abused or neglected.
Check out our new volunteers´ thoughts from their first few days in Chile. We´re pretty sure they are already learning to love it here! If you know someone who would make a great VE volunteer, let us know!
Un Abrazo,
Josh Pilz
Executive Director
P.S. If you haven´t heard, we´ve had some changes to our team, read it here! And finally, Thank you Faith and Lily for all your great work and friendship this past year and a half!
